The Fermentation Library

The Fermentation Library is an Enerphit building that aims to bring down the energy expenditure of the building by 80 per cent through increased insulation, building airtightness and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery.

This is a project designed with the local community in mind, so extra care has been taken for an inclusive design that uses a limited palette of materials to create an array of textures via light that is manipulated through the use of wooden slats.

Doughty Mews

A residential mews house on Doughty Mews. The axis of the main entrance is shifted to the side and opened up to make room for a moss garden.

Light is managed with adjustable, pivoting cedar fins.

Htown

Htown is a retail space in the 100 Hotel, Shoreditch, stocking young London designers.

It is also a community hub. The store worked with the hotel to hold workshops and events that bring brands, artists and creative directors together with shoppers, to open up the fashion industry to young people.

About

Farid Fakhre is an interior designer based in London. He studied the Inchbald Diploma in Architectural Interior Design at Inchbald School of Design, where his project The Fermentation Library was awarded Guy Greenfield’s Prize in 2022 and featured by Dezeen. The work so far is built from timber, brick and controlled daylight.

Farid F Design is his studio.

Current work

A private residence in Grenada, now under construction. Furniture sourcing has begun, and fabrics and wallcoverings are being specified.

In 2022, Inchbald School of Design awarded Guy Greenfield’s Prize to Farid Fakhre, from its Inchbald Diploma in Architectural Interior Design, for The Fermentation Library. He is pictured with Guy Greenfield of Guy Greenfield Architects and Alan Hughes, Principal and Director of Interior Design at Inchbald.
